Read this as a costing estimate, not a customs ruling. Landed cost per unit = supplier price + freight/unit + duty/unit + insurance/unit + fees/unit, and the five lines above add up to exactly that total. Duty here is charged on the goods value (units × supplier price); real duty may be assessed on a CIF value or carry extra fees, tariffs, or anti-dumping charges — confirm your actual rate with your customs broker or your product's HTS code. Every number here comes only from the values you typed.

How to read it

Landed cost per unit — the real number to use as COGS for pricing, margin, and break-even. Not the supplier's invoice price.
Vs. supplier price — how much freight, duty, and fees inflate what you actually pay. It's easy to underestimate: a cheap unit shipped a long way can land at 1.5–2× the factory price.
The margin gap — if you set retail prices off the supplier invoice, your real gross margin is lower than the one in your head by exactly the freight-plus-duty-plus-fees load. Price off the landed cost instead.

Why your real margin drifts even after you've done the math

You calculate landed cost once, enter a product cost into Shopify, and move on — but the inputs keep moving. Ocean and air freight rates swing, duty and tariff schedules change, FX shifts, a supplier quietly raises unit price on the next PO. Meanwhile the cost field in your store still shows the number from the first shipment. So your reported gross margin looks healthy while your real margin has quietly slipped — and because nothing errors, you only notice when the bank balance disagrees with the dashboard.
